There is another layer to the world than what we see with our eyes. As an Aboriginal artist, the intersection between the lucid and the solid, the dreaming and the physical seems to be a space that I spend a lot of my time contemplating.
Bioluminesence No.1 is a story about my first visit to Huskisson, 16 or so years ago. I thought it was the moon causing this night light extravaganza amongst the waves at the time, but have come to learn that a certain algae houses a cellular being that journeys through the ocean, generating light from within. The timing of my first visit and being a witness to this display, I now know to be rare. The Ocean sang to me that night and the song line drew me to this place I now call home. Aboriginal people are travellers, moving around for the purpose of survival, spirituality and meaning. This painting is about that journey, a journey we refer to as 'walkabout'. All these years later and I am still appreciating the precious land that sang to me that night.♥️
